At school

"I’m not sure what career I want yet, but I know I want to do something interesting and that I’m good at. The most important thing is, I want to enjoy what I do and be challenged. I haven’t really thought about a career in intelligence. I’ve seen some movies about spies and some of the stuff they do – and all the technology they get to use. I’d definitely like to find out more about this."

Book
Doing Further study

"There are so many career options out there and it’s difficult to know what courses I need to do and skills I need to get. I’ve seen some ads for careers in intelligence but not sure how that would apply to me. Would there be a need for someone like me who’s undertaking further study (e.g. at TAFE)? I’m just not sure where to find the information."

Graduation
Graduating University

"I’ll be graduating from university next year with a degree in business management. I’m now starting to think about my career options. I hadn’t thought about working for the Australian government or being a public servant, but I’ve talked to a few people who’ve started graduate programs in intelligence. It sounds intriguing and I’d like to find out more."

In the Workforce

"I’m in my 40s and have had several jobs in the private sector after I finished university. Now, it’s time for a change. I love working with all kinds of people with different skills. Over time, I’ve developed the ability to listen to people and help them sort through problems. I’ve heard a lot about the challenges Australia faces and wonder if there’s some way I can put my skills to use in a public service role?".

In Network
In the NIC

"I’ve been working in an agency within the NIC for about 5 years and feel I could do with a change of roles. I know my agency is one part of a bigger intelligence community, but I’m not sure if I can use my skills or experience in another agency. I want to find out how I could re-skill for another role in the intelligence community."
